Emergency & Safety Guide
Safety Focus
Our school and district are committed to student safety. Please do your part to keep our students safe and to watch out for pedestrians and bicycles. Children may be walking or riding bikes to and from school or their assigned bus stop between the hours of 6 AM – 9 AM and 1 PM – 5PM. The speed limits should be followed. Please urge your friends and neighbors to use caution when driving before and after school.
Parents and Guardians Have a Key Role in Emergency Response
During and following an emergency situation, school and district officials must act quickly and follow established emergency protocols to safeguard students and staff, secure schools, and communicate accurate information in a timely manner. Parents can assist greatly by helping with preparation before the emergency.
Safety Drills
In working towards creating a safe campus, staff and students participate in a number of safety drills over the course of the school year. We have already begun practicing what to do in an emergency. Safety is a priority on our campus. In the unlikely event that our campus must be evacuated in the interest of safety, parents and guardians will be notified immediately. We are very proud of our students for remaining calm and following directions as we practice what to do in different situations.
Bicycle Helmet Laws
If you are under 16 years old, you must wear a properly fitted bicycle helmet that meets national standards. This also applies to child passengers riding in a trailer or semitrailer attached to the bicycle.
You risk a fine of $15 if you do not wear a helmet while riding a bicycle in Florida.
Florida Child Car Seat Laws
It is the responsibility of the supervising adult to ensure that any child under 7 years old is seated in a federally-approved child car seat. Failure to do so could result in a $60 fine and 3 points against your driver’s license. For more information about Car Seat Laws and Regulations see below
